slow and steady wins the race

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!

OMG... Sam has been granted a WISH from Make a Wish Foundation. I am so completely floored!  I laughed, I cried, I posted it on FaceBook, I cried some more and jumped up and down alot.  I am so thrilled to be able to have this opportunity for our family... an amazing gift.  Sam is one amazing kid ... after all that he has been through he deserves something so wonderful.

Sam was granted wishes TWICE in the past and I turned them down (yes, really).  Clearly I did not know or understand what Make A Wish was or what they do for families like ours.  Initially, years ago when I was approached about granting Sam a wish , I was sort of taken back thinking... wow, they really don't think he is going to survive if they are offering this to us and if he does survive it would be a nightmare to travel with him and his feeding pump, oxygen, seizures and suitcase full of meds.  I was hurt and worried that perhaps his doctors had given up on Sam and this was our fairwell gift.  Clearly I was clueless.  But, hey... it took me 6 years to finally get a handicap parking permit so what can you expect.  Slow and steady wins the race... right!

I am now a lot wiser and I guess the third time is the charm!  I can't wait to figure out what Sam's wish will be.  He LOVES the water, swimming, music, dancing, DVD movies, swinging, sand... so although I don't know what his wish will entail I think Sea World or Discovery Cove would be wonderful for him.

We will be contacted by a Wish Granter in sometime in the next month to start setting things up and then sometime later this year Sam's wish will be granted.  He has no idea what this all means but I am sure he will be delighted.  I also think that this will be really nice for his brothers too.  They always have to sit and behave at all Sam's doctor appointments, therapies, and other not so fun places.  They have to wait (a lot) when Sam needs suctioning or gets sick and I think often times feel that their needs are not as important.  It is hard to explain to a small child that although that is a really cool thing you just made or did, making sure that your brother can breath is mommy's first priority right now.  They learned some hard lessons pretty young but they love Sam and they understand as best they can.  However, this will be sort of like a thank you to them for all their patience and understanding during all those not-so-fun times.

Well I am so excited for our family.  I can't wait to find out what wonderful things are in store.

Oh HOORAY! HOORAY!!!!!! Did you ever see the video I did from Angela's trip? Angela's Make a Wish was absolutely MAGICAL, not only because Make a Wish did it, but because we stayed at Give Kids The World and did Disney World. It's an unbelievable trip. If you decide to go there, they include Seaworld in the package. The village itself is a trip, much less throwing in ALL the parks, which they do! Seriously, there is something for EACH of your boys there. Aaahhhhh but it's Sam's wish, isn't it? LOL (can you tell I want to go back?)
